health kick

brought to you by the girl and her ever-widening pants - or so it has seemed anyways! AHHRRRG people - why did i keep going back for 2nds over the holidays, more chocolate, more stuffing, more anything and everything; even after i actually was kinda full already. 3 cheers to a New Year and waking up to eating more "consciously".

this has been a challenge; breaking away from bread and sweets after i practically bathed in them sucks a bit but so far it seems to be working. i feel less puffed and have adapted a new (FREE) app on the ol' iPhone called My Fitness Pal which helps me monitor my calorie consumption. good gosh, i don't even want to think about how many calories i was taking in before. YIPES! so cutting back on the white stuff: bread, rice, sugar is making a difference and it also gives me more reason to cook at home. KASA is definitely diggin' that part of the new regime : )   that's a spicy black bean burger up above, just with some dollops of salsa, guac and a sprinkling of cheddar plus some hummus on the side. it's actually very filling and yummy.

some hot spots i've been frequenting for recipes and major amounts of drool worthy food inspirational assortments are Forgiving Martha (Jess learned her culinary mastery from her fams, total triumph in the kitchen because of it too!), Olives for Dinner (there's some Kale recipes there that'll get you all revved up to try), and Spoon Fork Bacon (food porn has never looked so good, i love Jenny & Teri's styling/photography. absolutely ace!) check out this awesome chicken lettuce wrap and tell me you don't wanna try it asap.

one recipe i also want to test drive real soon was from Jess's gluten free selections, which i saw on Camille Styles in this post. can't wait to give it a go.

happy, healthy almost weekend everyone!!! ♥

Hmm, this spicy black bean burger looks like an absolute must try, yum!! I just recently went back to a vegan diet and I'm loving it, so is my waist line, and surprisingly?! For me, no meat = WAY more energy. Yay!! Be sure to keep me posted on how things are going for you Lynn, I'm hoping to start posting recipes in the next few weeks on my blog too. Hopefully, it's not too out of my place on my bloggy?! Being that I usually only blab fashion. ;) xo veronika

In addition to the sites you mentioned, I also love A Couple Cooks and My New Roots for awesome healthy recipes. They're some of my favorite food blogs! I also like Oh She Glows when I'm looking for vegan specific recipes.

I'm on a health kick, too! I was realizing that all the crap I was putting in my body was leaving me feeling gross and bloated and tired at the end of even a not-so-busy day. Here's to luck to both of us! We shall prevail!

I also downloaded the Fitness Pal app a couple of weeks ago and have been trying to balance my calorie intake throughout the day. Namely, more frequent & healthier snacks than just the standard breakfast/lunch/dinner. It's definitely hard to manage since I've never really been that concious about it. Good luck!!

I've been trying to eat healthing and cutting out on a lot of food that isn't good for me. But when the temptations come it's hard to resist. I've had My Fitness Pal for a long time and when I finally upgraded to a new phone and noticed you can now scan things I got overly excited. Eating healthy was one of my new goal for this year and I haven't been doing great with it. Now that you've given me a reason too and some sources for healthy recipes I think I might just have to suck it up and just do it.

That spicy black bean burger looks awesome! One of my favorite new clean eating recipes is from Whole Living. It's roasted winter vegetables tossed with cannelini beans, which we have along side some soup.

Keep it up Lynn! :)

Oh, I could go for a bite of that burger right about now! My husband has been making me some just like that and they are the best! I've eaten my burger without a bun for over 15 years...when people didn't have a clue what gluten-free was and looked at me quite strangely! lol....

I love your selection of food resources, some awesome recipes to try out for sure!!

Sounds like you are on top of eating healthy and that's terrific. My biggest thing right now is drinking enough water. I realized how often I reach for a cup of tea or coffee (it's sooo cold here) instead of water - so I'm trying my best on that one!

Hope you're having a great week xo

You always look teeny tiny so I'm sure it was all in your head, but I find just for the sake of my health I like to take the time to be conscious about what I eat. That black bean burger looks out of this world...I'm definitely trying it out, will let you know how it goes! Hope you've been well lovely

I love making food ♥ but I've only recently tried making hummus, IT'S SO YUMMY!

Before when I was really, really sick I hated having to make food, and even to eat it. I didn't have any appetite, and every meal felt like a energy-consuming chore.

But the thing is that eating is pretty important now isn't it? Haha.
So I made a decision, I decided to use some of the little energy I had to make my own meals the way I wanted them, and it didn't take long for me to love cooking. It's really a lot of fun :)

It's only lately that I've been learning a bit more about nutritional value and such, I eat pretty healthy but I think I could do with a bit more fiber.. Hehe.

I LOVE spicy black bean burgers! I always buy a pack of the morningstar ones when I am at the store and eat one everyday for lunch with an avocado and cheese on it. So good!

It's definitely a struggle to remind ourselves to eat healthy, but once we fall into a pattern it becomes easier. I find the hardest part is not caving in to eating out every night or getting something delivered-- it's just SO much easier!!

Life without bread? I can't imagine. But to be fair, we rarely eat the white stuff - it's all whole wheat breads and brown rice at our house. We even make a lot of cookies with whole whear flour! That black bean burger looks delicious, though, as does the veggie pho. I've been looking for a veggie pho recipe for the longest time, thanks so much for sharing this brilliant one. Hopefully your temptation resistance has the desired results - I'll be thinking about you, lades!

thanks so much for your incredibly kind comment! i LOVE your scarf, and thanks for the healthy suggestions, we're trying to eat better too, and sometime it's hard when a salad isn't what you're craving...

good for you for trying to have a healthier diet, I know it can be difficult! Although I am a vegetarian, I love chocolate and bread... so that´s a big battle for me :)

I'm trying hard to not drink anymore pop or sugary drinks, but it's so hard! Gotta love guacamole though!
